Our two cats have been patients of SS for several years. We have always found the services and care at the top. Dental work, blood drawing, chest xrays, shots and yearly exams. Everything is explained in detail. Just wish animals had better health insurance!!!!!

The lab samples were sent in gratis to the clinical lab and showed the kidneys were failing; the liver was failing; and Sophie was developing anemia. These samples confirm the beginning of organ failure. This 17 year old dog had reached the end of her life. She passed in my hospital without suffering. There was a doctor and nursing team to comfort . At home she could have suffered in death. I feel your father's pain. That pain is not lessened with negative comments about me that are not only disrespectful but complete falsehoods. Those that no me know how much I care about my patients.

Our beloved Pom was going in for some blood work 2 weeks ago. My dad was in the waiting room, which I was confused as to why they wouldn't let him in the room with her seeing as my own vet does all the shots and blood work in front of us. Our Pom was 15 yrs old and attached to my father like no animal I have ever seen before. When the dr came out he has told my dad that while getting the blood work she had passed away and said she would have passed away regardless if she went to the vet that day or not. I've talked to several nurses and vet techs and they have confirmed my suspicions, it sounded to them like he hit a main artery (since the blood was being taken from her neck) or there was air in the needle. My dad is completely heart broken and blaming himself especially since he was not with her when she passed. Yes she was old, but she was going in for a routine check up and suddenly died. I'am 100% positive that he made a mistake and is trying to cover his ass. Why wouldn't you let the owner go with the dog to get blood work when the dog is so old? How does this even happen? We are beyond devastated and I am truly pissed off, esp after reading all the terrible reviews. My parents have changed vets thankfully but we will never get our Sophie back.

We love coming here. All my pets and my children's pets come here. The people here are kind and knowledgeable.

Answer to Katie-from Dr. Don DeForge-I have been a practitioner for four decades in Milford. Your father's dog, Sophie, was a part of the Silver Sands family for years. I diagnosed her gall bladder pathology and had a surgeon perform the necessary surgery to save her life. I referred Sophie to an Internal Medicine doctor for pre-anesthesia evaluation. Sophie had many blood samples taken by me by Jugular vein puncture during her life time. Your father consented to have me perform oral surgery after oral care was advised by Internal Medicine to restore function, remove pain, and return a quality of life. Your father asked me to perform this oral surgery. Sophie had an excellent surgery and all oral pathology was treated. Internal Medicine asked for blood samples to be taken two weeks post surgery. During the phelbotomy experience two weeks post-surgery Sophie went into cardiac arrest. There was no restraint exertion. The arrest occurred after the blood was drawn. I have a friend who died in his doctor's waiting room; my own brother as a young man died in an arm chair in his home alone. The veterinary technicians that have commented on Sophie's death are not only misinformed but non-professional in their comments and do not understand medicine.

The statement by Kate made below do not allow you to understand the true picture of Dr. DeForge and his dedication to animal care for over forty years.. Dr. DeForge has taken care all of my dogs for the past 9 years He is one of the most caring and educated doctors I have had the privilege of knowing. Other veterinarians never spoke to me about the importance of zoonotic or oral disease in my pets. Two of my dogs who I just lost had very serious health problem. My first dog had severe hip dysplasia as well as spondylosis and was a high anxiety dog. At the age of 4, she became terrified of veterinary hospitals and we would have to carry her, all 70 lbs, into any veterinary hospital because the last hospital we brought her to-before I met DR. DeForge- had 5 people hold her down to trim her nails. After just a few months of visiting Dr. DeForge, she made a complete turn around because he was kind and gentle with her. Dr. DeForge understands what the word compassion means and he shows great love to each and very pet he treats. People say animals do not understand things but I am certain they know when someone loves and cares for them. She starting walking into the hospital herself and was excited for her visits! She no longer had to wear a muzzle and was taking cookies from Dr. DeForge. She was started on a pain regiment for her orthopedic issues and anxiety medication. She went on to live a total of 11 years pain free and anxiety free which is a rarity for her breed! My other dog who also just recently passed away had a extremely serious heart condition which was diagnosed in his senior years. Dr. DeForge immediately contacted an Internal Medicine doctor (free of charge to me) to consult on the best treatments for my dog. The Internal Medicine doctor did inform us that with this particular heart condition we could expect another 6 months and if we got another 1 year that would be miracle. We started the medications right away and also changed his diet, following all of Dr. DeForge's recommendations, and amazingly he went on to give us another 2 1/2 years of joy!! That was a true miracle and would not have happened without a doctor by my boys side who truly cared!! It certainly was hard to lose him, but I know he had a quality of life that was special under Dr. DeForge's supervision and care. We know he is in a better place and we gave him an amazing life! We can't thank Dr. DeForge enough for all that he has done for our dogs and all he continues to do for our dog. If you are looking for someone who keeps up to date on the latest information in medicine, truly cares about what he does, shows kindness and understanding to nervous pets and has a staff who have all the same values then Silver Sands Veterinary is the ONLY place to bring your pets. I truly hope this review sheds some light on what really happens when you bring your pet(s) to someone who wants to make a difference in their lives. Don't be fooled by what you read from others who have never actually taken their pets to see Dr. DeForge. It amazes me how people use review sites to bring misinformation to public viewing. In a very negative and anxiety driven world I have found a veterinarian, Dr. DeForge, who practices with open referral in complex problems, uses all of the diagnostic tests available when needed, and shows kindness, love, and concern.
